3 Things You Can Do to Stay Hot in the Market!

SAP consultancy is not exclusive to change. Like any other industry, the market has been a more and more crowded place as years went by. As such, it is imperative for you to stay competitive so you will have another job coming when you have finished this one. So, what can you do?
  1. Keep your friends close
In a very niche industry such as SAP consultancy, networking is paramount. The people you are working with are not mere colleagues but they are potential promoters for you. Some people get into this business because they hope they don’t need to or they can minimize human interactions as little as possible. But, it is on the contrary. This job requires ample human interactions and in order for you to stay aware of the current market, making friends and connecting with people is important. True, you can always stay updated on the technical aspect of the business, or the general situation of the market, but when it comes to job vacancies, your circle is the one who will keep you floating in this sea of uncertainty. Some of the consultants we know here have had no problem finding the next job after another, simply because they have good relationships with their clients and fellow consultants.
  1. Learn, you must.
You just read that with Yoda voice, didn’t you? Well, if don’t know Yoda, then you are missing out from a universe of wisdom, coming from a green and dwarven monk. Anyway, you have to learn and keep yourself equipped with the newest things there are in this competitive environment. SAP and CRM are highly evolutionary and may change considerably over the course of a short period. It doesn’t matter if you have 20 years of experience in SAP if you are not willing to learn. Everything you have known up to this point might be obsolete in 5 years time. What then? Don’t give substance to the old saying, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. Prove them otherwise. The latest update on SAP is, we believe, the S4HANA. So, be continuously informed and go to training and workshops if you have to. Companies and clients will not wait for you to learn all that on the job. They expect you to be running once you land. Everything has to be on time and on the dot. What value can you bring if you have already lost half your breath at the starting line? And yes, maybe it helps too if you do some cardio once in a while eh?
  1. Stick with a good agent
Let us face it; recruiters and resourcing companies are a big chunk of your independent consultancy life. Hiring managers and big companies prefer to deal with these agencies because they make their work easier, that’s all. As such, they hold most of the projects you are so eager to get ahold of. But, sweet as that may be, we don’t deny that there exists a bitterness in resourcing industry; that is, resourcing companies care more about the clients (the money provider) than they do about the consultants. They take a huge margin from the consultants and the consultants are left with a minuscule pay. So, find yourself a good agent, an agent which cares about your requirements, knows your expertise and understand your expectations. When you use an agent, it is inevitable that you have to pay some sort of fees, right? But make it worth it. If the agent takes care of you, then that is a wise investment for you. Want to know how we treat our consultants? Learn more here! It is a waste, to be honest, looking at talented and experienced people not getting any project just because they refuse to adapt. This is the digital era, an era where changes are constant and at a fast pace too. If we wish to stay in this blissful oasis, we have to learn to catch the stream while it is still flowing. Will you be left out, or will you lead the way? Your choice.
